הדלת הפתוחה
A concept design for Alon Eder's album The Open Door: the record sleeve, and a poster that is not flat.
The album sits in melancholy with hope running underneath it, and I wanted the object to carry that rather than illustrate it. So the poster folds. Its creases build a staircase, and a figure climbs it from the very bottom, step after step in the dark, again and again, until a door opens onto somewhere bright. You have to unfold it to find that out, which is the point: the climb costs something in your hands too.
It was the most demanding piece here and it is my favourite. A folded object has to work as engineering before it works as an image: every crease is a decision that either lands the figure on the next step or ruins the illusion, and all of the album's text had to fit on a surface that keeps folding away from you.

האלבום יושב במלנכוליה שתקווה זורמת מתחתיה, ורציתי שהאובייקט יישא את זה במקום לאייר את זה. לכן הכרזה מתקפלת. הקיפולים בונים גרם מדרגות, ודמות מטפסת בו מלמטה למעלה, מדרגה אחר מדרגה בחושך, שוב ושוב, עד שנפתחת דלת אל מקום מואר. צריך לפתוח את הכרזה כדי לגלות את זה, וזה בדיוק העניין: הטיפוס עולה במשהו גם לידיים שלכם.
זו הייתה העבודה התובענית ביותר כאן, והאהובה עליי. אובייקט מקופל חייב לעבוד כהנדסה לפני שהוא עובד כתמונה: כל קיפול הוא החלטה שמנחיתה את הדמות על המדרגה הבאה או הורסת את האשליה, וכל הטקסט של האלבום היה צריך להיכנס לשטח שממשיך להתקפל ולהסתתר.
