צ'יקצ'אק
ChikChak is a browser extension that reads the terms of service and privacy policies nobody reads, and tells you in plain language when something in them should worry you: your data being shared, a legal right signed away, a policy that can change without you.
The case that started it: a woman died of an allergic reaction at a restaurant at Disney Springs, having been assured the food was safe for her. When her husband sued, Disney argued the claim belonged in arbitration, because he had signed up for a Disney+ trial years earlier and accepted its terms. A streaming subscription, raised against a wrongful death claim. It is an extreme case of something completely ordinary: we consent blind, dozens of times a week, and the consent counts even though the reading never happened.
So the design problem was not “summarise a legal document.” It was: how do you stop someone at the exact moment they are about to click Accept, tell them the one thing that matters, and get out of the way, fast enough that they keep the extension installed. That is where the name comes from.
My roleMade with Noga Nachman as an academic research project. I proposed the subject, built the interface and the working prototype in Figma, developed the graphic language together with Noga, and produced the project's presentation site, its promo film and the video and audio edit.
צ'יקצ'אק הוא תוסף דפדפן שקורא את תנאי השימוש ומדיניות הפרטיות שאיש אינו קורא, ואומר לכם בשפה פשוטה מתי משהו שם אמור להדאיג אתכם: שיתוף המידע שלכם, ויתור על זכות משפטית, או מדיניות שיכולה להשתנות בלעדיכם.
המקרה שממנו הכול התחיל: אישה מתה מתגובה אלרגית במסעדה בדיסני ספרינגס, אחרי שהובטח לה שהאוכל בטוח עבורה. כשבעלה תבע, דיסני טענה שהתביעה שייכת לבוררות, משום שנרשם שנים קודם לכן לתקופת ניסיון ב־Disney+ ואישר את תנאיה. מנוי לשירות סטרימינג, שנטען כנגד תביעה על מוות ברשלנות. זהו מקרה קיצוני של דבר רגיל לחלוטין: אנחנו מסכימים בעיוורון, עשרות פעמים בשבוע, וההסכמה תקפה גם כשהקריאה מעולם לא קרתה.
לכן בעיית העיצוב לא הייתה “לסכם מסמך משפטי”. היא הייתה: איך עוצרים מישהו בדיוק ברגע שהוא עומד ללחוץ “אני מסכים”, אומרים לו את הדבר האחד שחשוב, ויורדים מהדרך, מהר מספיק כדי שהתוסף יישאר מותקן. משם השם.
התפקיד שלינעשה יחד עם נוגה נחמן במסגרת מעבדה אקדמית. אני הצעתי את הנושא, בניתי את הממשק ואת הפרוטוטייפ העובד בפיגמה, פיתחתי את השפה הגרפית יחד עם נוגה, והפקתי את אתר התצוגה של הפרויקט, סרטון הפרומו ועריכת הווידאו והסאונד.
